Early Morning Amusement:: Michael (Jump In)

It's Friday, and I managed to not oversleep by two hours today, so that seems like a good reason for an Early Morning Amusement.

I originally discovered "No More Kings" while I was working on the first draft of "Mallville - A Journal of the Zombie Apocalypse". I was listening to Pandora and a fairly catchy tune came on. A short ways into the song I realized it was about zombies; it was "Zombie Me" by "No More Kings". As I continued to listen, more of their songs played andd I ended up going out and buying the album.

If you are unfamiliar with "No More Kings", their albums are basically my childhood set to music. The songs are cheerful, upbeat, and frequently more than a little silly, and I find it to be very uplifting. They have songs about "Peanuts", "Short Circuit", "Gulliver's Travels", "The Karate Kid", and of course the subject of this song, "Knight Rider"

You may be wondering why I am highlighting the video for "Michael (Jump In)" when it was "Zombie Me" that first got my attention, and even became a bit of an un-official theme for "Mallville" (I'd be happy for it to be the official theme if I could get permission). Well, there's not a video for that song, but this one is a lot of fun too, and it's a great way to start off the day.

Early Morning Amusement: Jason Statham Audi Ad

After seeing a screening of "The Mechanic" (the review should be posted today) I've gotten on a bit of a Jason Statham kick again, and it made me think of this. Today's video combines two of my favourite things: Jason Statham awesomeness with a really cool Superbowl ad.

I liked this ad in 2009 when it first played, and it is still cool today.

Early Morning Amusement: The Purple Smurfs

Do you remember "The Smurfs"? I'm sure that even if you're too young to remember them from their Saturday morning run in the 80's that you have at least heard of them. If nothing else, you have probably seen the dreadful looking trailer for their upcoming film that is being released as part of Hollywood's on-going attempt to crap on the childhoods of my generation. Even those who grew up on the little blue fellows may not remember that they once did an episode where they have their own little adorable zombie apocalypse.

In 1981, as part of "The Smurfs" first season, they made a short called "The Purple Smurfs". In this cartoon Lazy Smurf becomes infected with a "28 Days Later"-esque illness that turns him purple, and makes him want to bite his fellow smurfs on the tail. Once bitten the victim smurf becomes infected and turns purple themselves. The short is based on the original comic story, "The Black Smurfs" (gee, I cannot imagine why they changed THAT title), I challenge you to show me a cuter zombie apocalypse!

Also, how awesome is it that there's a Smurfs wiki? I truly do love the internet.

Early Morning Amusement: The Walking Dead

Ok, yeah, it's another trailer, but not for a movie this time. This is the trailer for the upcoming AMC series based on Robert Kirkman's "The Walking Dead".

While I was still working on the blog version of "Mallville - A Journal of the Zombie Apocalypse" this was pretty much the only zombie fiction I was still reading. You can tell from the trailer that they are changing things a little from the book, but it still looks really great. Just one more reason to look forward to Halloween.

Early Morning Amusement: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World Graphic Novel Trailer

I am still in the throes of Scott Pilgrim mania, and one of the best things about the movie is that a lot of it is taken directly from the series of books. This trailer demonstrates that by recreating the entire trailer with images from the graphic novels (although to be fair some of the scenes used in this trailer appear differently in the film)

One of the things I love about commercials for as-seen-on-tv products is how they can make the simplest things, like boiling water or combing your hair, seem incredibly difficult and inconvenient. This is a video tribute to that.
